Hnit has led several projects regarding environmental aspects, mainly Environmental Impact Assessment, (EIA). EIA is in most cases a necessary precursor leading up to larger projects and the public has to increased extent focused on this precursor, where the nature of the projects and their impacts are defined. Hnit has up to now mainly worked on EIA for road construction projects, but has recently worked on EIA for Urriðafoss Hydroelectric Project in Þjórsá River. That particular project is furthermore by far the largest project that Hnit has carried out in this field.

Hnit also has a powerful software for road noise calculation. The software is called SoundPlan and is one of the best tools available for noise calculations. Hnit has performed several projects on road noise calculation for icelandic communities.

Hnit has experienced personnell in the field of Environmental Impact Assessment and the company has effectively contributed to increasing their knowledge and experience by encouraging them to participate in courses and workshops on the matter.
