Hnit Consulting Engineers have from the very beginning provided all traditional engineering consulting. The company operates in several different fields and emphasizes on providing top quality services on a broad basis within the field of engineering consultancy. This includes road- and highway design, construction design and planning, project consultancy and supervision and surveying.

Hnit Consulting Engineers are located in Midbaer, Haaleitisbraut 58-60, 108 Reykjavik, where the company owns spacious offices on the 2^nd and 3^rd floor.

There are now in excess of 50 employees working at Hnit; engineers, technicians, surveying engineers, geologists, etc. Harald B. Alfredsson is the managing director and Bjarni Gunnarsson is the Chairman of the board.

Hnit Consulting Engineers was founded in 1966. The company carried out surveying and general consulting services. The company was in full operation in 1970, providing general engineering consulting services to municipalities and communities in Iceland, in addition to surveying and project supervision. Guðmundur Björnson and Baldur Jóhannesson were the co-founders of Hnit.

The operation expanded gradually and in 1982 Hnit bought equipment for cartography. In 1988 Hnit started within the field of geographical information systems (GIS), a technology that was quite new at the time, and in a short while a powerful branch was established in that field within Hnit. Software development started in the years to follow, with emphasis on developing software for cartography and GIS. These fields add up to a large portion of Hnit´s activities today.

In 1993 Hnit established a subsidiary company in Lithuania, called Hnit Baltic GeoInfoServisas. Hnit also established another subsidiary company, KamHnit, operating in Russia. In 1998 Hnit established Envirotech in Latvia, a company that also specializes in GIS.

Hnit has been expanding continuously since the company was established. The focus has been on expanding the horizon and adjusting to new technologies, but above all to deliver first class services. The number of employees har increased by nearly 60% in the last 5 years and that is reflected in increased turnover.

Hnit aims to ensure the quality of the company´s works, thus making sure that the customer is satisfied. Hnit has been ISO 9000 certified since 2005.
